Alaska security deposit law

Alaska landlords have 30 days to return a security deposit after you move out. The deposit can’t be more than 2 months’ rent.

The limit
Limit does not apply where rent exceeds $2,000 a month. A separate pet deposit of up to 1 month’s rent is allowed.
The deadline
14 days if the tenancy ended with proper notice and no damage deductions are made; otherwise 30 days after termination and delivery of possession.
Interest
Deposits must be kept in a trust account, but the statute does not require paying interest to the tenant.
Deductions
The landlord must give you an itemized list of anything kept from the deposit.
If it isn’t returned
Wilful noncompliance: tenant may recover up to twice the amount wrongfully withheld.
