Kentucky security deposit law

Kentucky sets no fixed deadline for returning a security deposit. State law sets no limit on the amount.

The deadline
No fixed refund deadline. The landlord must notify the tenant of any refund due and may keep an unclaimed refund 60 days after that notice. These deposit rules are part of the URLTA, which applies only in cities and counties that have adopted it.
Interest
State law doesn’t require interest on the deposit.
Deductions
The landlord must give you an itemized list of anything kept from the deposit.
If it isn’t returned
A landlord who did not keep the deposit in a separate account or skipped the move-in and move-out damage lists may not keep any of it (KRS 383.580(4)).
