Virginia rent increase notice

Virginia landlords must give at least 30 days’ notice before raising the rent on a month-to-month tenancy. There’s no statewide rent control.

Notice: No general rent-increase notice for periodic tenancies beyond the 30-day termination notice. Landlords with more than four units must give 60 days’ written notice of an increase before a renewable lease term ends (rising to 90 days on July 1, 2027).
Rent control: No statewide rent control or cap on increases.
