- The limit
- Includes prepaid rent; a tenant may voluntarily prepay more rent. Any fee or deposit not designated nonrefundable in writing is refundable.
- The deadline
- 14 days excluding Saturdays, Sundays, and legal holidays, after the tenancy ends, possession is delivered, and the tenant demands return.
- Interest
- State law doesn’t require interest on the deposit.
- Deductions
- The landlord must give you an itemized list of anything kept from the deposit.
- If it isn’t returned
- Tenant may recover the amount due plus damages equal to twice the amount wrongfully withheld.
