Kansas security deposit law

Kansas landlords have 30 days to return a security deposit after you move out. The deposit can’t be more than 1 month’s rent unfurnished; 1.5 months furnished.

The limit
An additional pet deposit of up to half a month’s rent is allowed.
The deadline
Balance due within 14 days after the landlord determines deductions, and no later than 30 days after the tenancy ends, possession is delivered, and the tenant demands return.
Interest
State law doesn’t require interest on the deposit.
Deductions
The landlord must give you an itemized list of anything kept from the deposit.
If it isn’t returned
Tenant may recover the amount due plus damages of 1.5 times the amount wrongfully withheld.
