- The deadline
- The itemized notice of damages and any balance are due within 30 days after occupancy ends. To keep disputed amounts, the landlord must sue within 45 days.
- Interest
- State law doesn’t require interest on the deposit.
- Deductions
- The landlord must give you an itemized list of anything kept from the deposit.
- If it isn’t returned
- Failing to comply waives the claimed damages and makes the landlord liable for double the deposit retained (MCL 554.613).
