Mississippi security deposit law

Mississippi landlords have 45 days to return a security deposit after you move out. State law sets no limit on the amount.

The limit: No statutory limit.
The deadline: 45 days after the tenancy ends, possession is delivered, and the tenant demands the deposit.
Interest: State law doesn’t require interest on the deposit.
Deductions: The landlord must give you an itemized list of anything kept from the deposit.
If it isn’t returned: Bad-faith retention: up to $200 in addition to actual damages.
