West Virginia security deposit law

West Virginia landlords have 60 days to return a security deposit after you move out. State law sets no limit on the amount.

The deadline
Within 60 days after the tenancy ends, or within 45 days after a new tenant occupies the unit, whichever is shorter, with a written itemization.
Interest
State law doesn’t require interest on the deposit.
Deductions
The landlord must give you an itemized list of anything kept from the deposit.
If it isn’t returned
Willful or bad-faith noncompliance: the unreturned deposit plus damages of 1.5 times the amount wrongfully withheld (credited against any rent owed).
